Hey there, Psalm Mom! If you’re reading this, you might be in that frustrating space where you feel like you’re shouting into a void with your prayers. We've all been there. Like, literally, ALL OF US. You’ve thrown up those heartfelt requests, perhaps even some desperate pleas, and it feels like God is ignoring you and prioritizing His other kids.
Hello, God, It's Me, Christian Mom, aka Psalm Mom
Life as a mom can often feel like a chaotic circus act. You’re juggling school drop-offs, work deadlines, and the never-ending laundry pile, all while trying to keep your sanity intact. In the midst of this craziness, you turn to God, asking for help, guidance, or maybe just a moment of peace. And then… crickets.
You might be thinking, “What gives, God? Am I talking to a wall here?” It’s easy to feel like your prayers are falling flat, especially when you’re exhausted and just want some answers. But let’s dig deeper into why it seems like God isn’t answering.
God’s Timing vs. Our Timing
Even as Christian moms we all want things to happen on our timeline, right? Right. When we pray for something—healing, a new job, a baby, or even just a few moments of quiet—our natural inclination is to want it NOW. But here’s the reality check: God’s timeline doesn’t always align with ours.
Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV) tells us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Let’s break this down: God has a perspective we simply can’t grasp. He sees the whole picture while we’re squinting at the details. What feels urgent to us might not be on His radar at all. And sometimes, the wait is part of His plan.
The Gift of Patience
Ugh, patience! Who really wants to wait for anything, especially when life is already overwhelming? Yet, God knows that patience is a virtue worth cultivating. Romans 12:12 (NIV) states that “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Patience is one of those things we can’t seem to muster when we need it most. It’s like trying to find matching socks in a sea of laundry—nearly impossible! But God uses waiting to build our faith. It’s in those moments of silence that we can truly learn to rely on Him.
What to Do While You Wait
So, while you’re waiting for God to show up, what can you do? Here are a few ideas to help you navigate the seemingly endless silence:
Keep the Lines Open: Just because you feel ignored doesn’t mean you should stop praying. Keep talking to God, even if it feels like you’re just venting. Pour out your frustrations, joys, and everything in between.
Dive into Scripture: The Bible is packed with promises and reminders of God’s faithfulness. Spend time reading verses that encourage you during your waiting season. It’ll help shift your focus from your worries to His unwavering love.
Find Your Tribe: Connect with other moms who understand your struggles. Sometimes a good laugh or a shared sigh can work wonders for your spirit. You can pray for each other and remind one another that you’re not alone in this waiting game.
Practice Gratitude: When waiting feels heavy, try to focus on what you’re thankful for. A gratitude journal can help you see God’s blessings amidst the chaos. It’s amazing how shifting your focus can change your perspective.
Be Open to Unexpected Answers: God might not answer your prayers in the way you expect. Sometimes, He’s working things out behind the scenes in ways you can’t see. Stay open to the idea that His plan might be better than what you had in mind.
The (Much) Bigger Picture
Remember, God’s delays are not denials. In 2 Peter 3:9 (NIV), we read, “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
God’s timing isn’t about making us wait just for the fun of it. He’s orchestrating things for our good and His glory. What seems like silence is often the preparation for something greater than we could imagine.
A Closing Prayer
Let’s wrap this up with a heart-to-heart with God:
Heavenly Father,
I come to You feeling frustrated and weary. It’s hard to wait and feel like my prayers are unanswered. Help me to trust in Your perfect timing, even when I don’t understand. Teach me to be patient and to find joy in the waiting.
Remind me of Your promises and fill my heart with hope. Help me to lean into Your presence, knowing that You are working behind the scenes, even when I can’t see it. Thank You for loving me and for hearing my prayers.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
So, dear, sweet Psalm Mom, don’t lose heart. Even when it feels like God is silent, He is still very much at work. Keep praying, stay patient, and trust that He has a plan that is worth the wait. You’ve got this, and God’s got you!
